He came from a bad breeder and had been kept in terrible conditions. He was scared of EVERYTHING - doors, grass, windows, but people most of all. It has taken many months of hard work to get him to the stage where he doesn’t bolt at the sight of a stranger - safe dog fields were essential in his rehab. Without them it would have been impossible and a beautiful, gentle dog would have had to be put to sleep having known nothing but terror all his life. Now he is a happy, relaxed dog, who likes most people he meets.

My dog wears a muzzle with bright red on so it’s visible. He wears a bright yellow tabard with the words ‘space needed’ in big black capital letters and he is always on a lead.
I also make sure I politely call out to anyone approaching.
I usually get a lot of abuse from people who they cannot recall their dog etc or they get very defensive when I ask them to pop their dog on a lead just whilst I walk by.
My dog really enjoys his walks. Sniffing is his favourite thing in life. All we ask is for a few seconds of space as we walk past.
The abuse and negativity I receive is very stressful and it really doesn’t need to happen if people were a little more educated on dog behaviour.
I feel people need more education on what the yellow tabard, ribbon, leads etc represent. Also people need to understand that although their dog is friendly and wants to play, other dogs may not enjoy this. Just like people. Some people don’t mind people in their space, talking excitedly, touching you etc. Other people prefer their own space or quieter interactions.
This is my experience and reason on why I am signing.
