I have been a volunteer helper for six years with Charlton Park's Riding for the Disabled group which stables ponies in the city farm. The mature parkland is ideal for animal keeping and for children and families, many disadvantaged, to learn about nature. This is a wonderful and unique park. The council should not be allowed to do this without thinking about the implications to the local schools and people. Where else in London does ont get to see these animals for free? Do we now have to pay the London Zoos astronomical fee just to introduce our children to peacocks? NOT NEEDED AND NOT WANTED! The local schools and children from all over London visit the park and enjoy the animals very much. We feel very lucky to have this park and it would be a travesty to lose it just because some jobsworth has decided its not worth it. IT IS WORTH IT.I say to the council - why not find other ways to fund it - i, for one, would be happy to pay towards the upkeep
