To me, it spoke of a loving community embrace and appreciation of the river I so love. Restoration, not demolition, would do much more for Ossining than the stilted monstrosity under consideration.

Mr Peter Schmid, Buffalo, New York, United States of America
The governments, local, state & federal, of late have been seeking to gain more and more control over our freedoms. One of these freedoms is the pursuit of happiness. I for one believe that community groups and organizations are one of the best ways to seek happiness and joy. The Ossining Boat & Canoe Club is one such organization. The club has been uniting people for almost one hundred years supported and maintained by it's membership. Now the local government wants to tear it down and make the lands theirs to regulate (and profit by)as they see fit. The people of Ossining should join together and stop this empirical attack and vote to save the OB&C club and clubhouse.
Although I do not live in the Ossining area, as a citizen of New York State, it pains me to see historical sites razed in the name of so called progress.

Why endanger this community resource through a risky redevelopment project that may not have market support and may become a financial burden to tax payers?

We need to preserve these historic treasures, one hundred years of history at the OBCC needs to be preserved for generations to come. It takes a village and beyond to stand up against this type of demolition in the name of progress, sign petitions, get you friends and neighbors to sign petitions, attend village and planning board meetings and keep this on the agenda. WAKE UP people ONCE ITS GONE, IT'S GONE FOREVER.

The club has stood in its existing place for over 100 years as a local affordable family place. Always maintained by its members who's skill and work that I have witnessed and helped with is far above par from most contractors out there today. This work, labor and material has be done at no cost to the taxpayer. This organization and situation simply works... Just leave it be. The club is open and welcome to anyone who wants to join whether you have a boat or not. The club is a has a long and rich history of being open to the community.
Dr Todd Patton, Yonkers, NY, United States of America
I am writing to support the continued existence of the Ossining Boat & Canoe Club. The people of the Hudson Valley need affordable public access to the Hudson River. There are far too few venues for the public to interact with this precious resource. Many access points on the Hudson River are very pricy for the common person. Please reconsider throwing away a historic part of the Hudson River boating community. Make a commitment to the people having access to the river.

Here in Ossining, we have some old things with some historic value, but we see more value in tearing down these old historic entities, and erecting some restaurant to serve fish and chips? I know we can do better than that! Be creative, think smart Ossining, and use the historic boat house to bring attention to Ossining and it's RICH history-Not Old history!

Juliette Conover, Palm Coast, FL, United States of America
It is boat clubs such as OBCC that keep our coastal towns close to nature and offer the community affordable richness in enjoying the waterfront which is theirs. Families have learned their love of the water, formed marriages and friendships while offering their children pride in their community while learning the history of the great Hudson River by being a part of this club. Having lived on City Island, NY and sailing/boating up and down the Hudson for the last 30 years, it would be a travesty to remove this important landmark for the sake of commercial gain.

This community boat club is where our citizens discover and develop their love for the community, the river and the environment. It is the birthplace of volunteerism because the kids learn at a young age that working together makes it possible for all. We are the only town on the hudson that provides affordable access for all residents.

President Elect Gil Hawkins, Leonia, NJ, United States of America
Over 400 member's of the Hudson River Fishermen's Association object to the loss of this great recreational institution. Trading tax ratables for interaction with our historic river is a bad economic move. Communities along the river have long realized the property values from riverfront activities. Canoe and kayaking is reviving awareness of those activities. A long-term plan celebrating the boat and canoe club is a smarter direction for Ossining's riverfront redevelopment.
