The author Vernon Coleman spent more money on feeding stray cats during his stay there an he did on feeding himself. He also wrote about how unwanted cats are often literally THROWN out onto the streets and left to fend for themselves. The stray animals there are probably often diseased, injured, starving and sometimes thirsty animals who have to endure often painful torments from people. Many Maltese people's idea of fun seems to be kicking kittens around like footballs or throwing them out into the sea and watching them drown.
Also, there is hardly any birdsong on Malta. Have you ever wondered why we send off so many sparrows in the winter and get so few of them back. It is because they often migrate over Malta, where they are often just shot and killed by Maltese hunters in VERY malicious ways.
