Childhood in East Africa where I also come from is and built on proper nurturing, love and care giving the child a sense of belonging. child discrimination on the basis of the HIV status is an act of jeopardizing the future of these children who had no say whatsoever in their getting HIV positive. Therefore in the line with article 2 of the UN convention on the rights of the child, no child will be subjected to any form of discrimination. Article 2 even strengthens this by asking all stakeholders to always have the best interests of the child in all circumstance. The same provisions are found in our African Charter on the rights and welfare of the child. Tanzania having ratified both documents meanings that these articles are so binding and are therefore national law and this kind of discrimination and stigma against school child should not go unpunished. The fight against HIV in East Africa must embrace love and protect children rather than put them at the firing squad least the future of a nation is at risk if childhood inequalities are not addressed in time.
