Large Primary schools in these areas suit neither communities which loose their immediate small schools nor pupils who are transported to large classrooms. Councils need to be more creative in their approach towards future education of our children and realise the huge benefits of what they already have.
The procedure of closing small schools was tried in France and failed. They now realise their mistakes. Let us not make the same mistakes. the problems will not be immediately visible today but in the future.

The children are taught in permanent classrooms not mobiles and spend a significant amount of time in the fantastic outdoor facilities. From the moment the children arrive at school to the moment they leave the pupil’s wellbeing is at the heart of the school. This includes the safe off-road parking area and the access to wrap around care provided between 8am and 6pm. The school is big enough to provide at least the recommended floor space per pupil, even when operating at capacity. Ysgol Llanbedr has served the local community well for the last 150 years and should be here to continue to do so for at least the same amount of time time again. It is the only English medium, rural, faith school in the area and Ysgol Llanbedr is a fabulous school that must stay open.

I would like to make three points:
1. I am sure that proper account has not been taken of the future demand for places within the catchment area over the next five years, and as a result of the much improved performance of the school the demand from outwith the catchment area.
2. My grandchildren would have to be provided with transport should LLanbedr be closed. The cost of provision of transport needs to be considered.
3. I am an member of the Independent Admissions Appeals Panel for Cumbria and for the last 3 or 4 years we have had appeals for admission to reception and year one for a primary school which has no scope for expansion. The reason for this was the poorly thought out closure of a nearby school. The parents within the original catchment area of that closed school are finding their children are being refused entry to the nearby school of their choice.
The Independent Panel has allowed entry above the maximum class size of 30 resulting in the school having to take expensive extra measures.

For a Council which has embarked on an ambitious program of 800 new build houses in Ruthin and the surrounding area one wonders whether there has been any thought for the infra structure required to accomodate the familes which buy these houses. One cannot help thinking that Ruthin requires a certain percentage of places taken up in the town schools in order to fulfil the criteria required to obtain the funding for a new school on the Glasdyr Estate flood plain.
A more pressing argument is the disruption for the children who seem to be the least considered in this consultation. Llanbedr School is an ideal country school with a Christian ethos, dedicated teachers and a happy industrious atmosphere leading to a high educational standard. One asks oneself where the common sense is in the Councils' argument.
