In the 3 months I have been down here through training I have made numerous friendships and really enjoy being able to train along the beach. A lot of the people I train with are university students and I feel if the council fees go up so will our training prices and a lot of the uni students won't be able to afford to train. No training = unfit, unhealthy living and I'm sure that's not what Wollongong would like to be portrayed as.
If the fees were to rise, I would hope that the money would go towards more lighting and maintenance around the area so it would become a safer environment not only for us who train, but for all the residents and visitors of Wollongong.

I am only interested in small groups as my focus is on injury rehab and prevention. My clients enjoy training outdoors and the fees i pay are more than adequate to cover the low usage of council land. My business cannot absorb the cost of this huge rate rise and my clients will suffer for it. I thought council was encouraging small business??

My allocated area is barely even usable through the cooler months. Lighting is not sufficient for safety and it is dark as night by 5:30pm. We then need to train on a narrow strip under the street light or use another area. We always take good care of the grounds and clean up other peoples rubbish, we are thoughtful of the community and seeing lives changed through improved health. We are doing the right thing. I cannot accept that this huge increase in fees will be put towards "maintaining licences" and if it is being put towards policing non-licence paying trainers then we should see the proceeds of their fines in improved facilities at the grounds.

If this fee increase goes ahead, council are being very greedy and taking advantage of a health conscious community.

From big to small operators - i think that some councillors and some small-minded public must feel like they are left out of getting fit and maybe they want to squash our positivity.
WCC wants to promote our city as a Healthy City but with doing something like this i would say that it's going against their image.

I would like an affordable outdoor option to provide my clients with a workout with all that the great outdoors provides, including fresh air and sunshine.
A shorter term option would also be more useful, 6 weeks, 12 weeks etc options would allow trainers to run more flexible and affordable training options for our clients. As it is I can not afford to pay for both an indoor and outdoor location, which would be ideal for my clients. A lot of trainers are making moderate wages, myself included.

This fee increase is only going to be passed on to the consumers - most of whom are residents and rate payers within Wollongong City Council limits. In these times with greater numbers of people being diagnosed with depression, everyone, including the council should be promoting exercising in the outdoors. I can attest to this myself since I joined one the fitness groups, I have never felt better/happier. Also, group exercising gets you to interact with other people and gives you a sense of community. These groups also support the wider community through charity fundraising events, so how about the council show their support, by not raising the fees by 48%.
I already pay rates which should entitle me to the use of the parks and cycleways etc and feel that an extra rise to these groups would filter down to the members, most of whom would also be rates payers. This rise is totally unfair.
Most of these groups train during off peak times - either early morning or evening, when others are not using these areas.

Other groups often use these areas often in large numbers and do not have to pay fees. This is not a national park where you need to pay entry fees.

This will not only cause society to gain or contine living an unhealthy lifestyle, it will also cause the community to lose money in the aforementioned areas. This money that will be gained could be used to benefit the community.
