Sadly the old Porcupine was not much used and I think a supermarket would receive much greater use. It is annoying having to go all the way to Eltham to do shopping and a LIDL in the village would be very convenient. The old pub is not a particularly noteworthy building and I would have no objection to its being replaced by a tastefully built supermarket (design and quality of build being very important) with adequate car parking. I and my family would probably shop at LIDL at least twice a week. We only visited the pub about once a year. I particularly dislike having a boarded up disused pub as a major eyesore in the village. Much better to turn it into a useful shopping facility, which would help regenerate the village.

The pub was run down and the animals should have been removed years ago by the RSPCA. It was NOT a family friendly place as many, older residents who did NOT frequent or live near the pub, thought. Living down the road from the pub, we fully welcome Lidl. It will be better than police sirens regularly blaring through the village to stop violent fights at the pub when local residents are trying to sleep.

The area is mostly residential and has a very mixed social demographic. A new store would offer greater choice over the present high-cost incumbents and represent good competition on a number of basic lines. Low- income families would see greater purchase power.
Custom at the pub has steeply declined and there are plenty of others nearby. Noise from deliveries to a Lidl store would not, in my view, be any more disruptive than at present. With a regime based on consideration for local residents, the convenience of a store on their doorstep would outweight the noise debate.
The majority of objections to Lidl's proposals appear to come from local businesses which naturally see a new supermarket as a threat. But, competition only across similar product lines would be healthy and favour the shopper and is supported by the fact that Lidl does indeed not offer the variety of the 'big four'.

Local traders, if they want to see the best for their clients, should grasp the opportunity to up their game - they would reap the benefits from the increased trade a new store would bring.

I believe there is more need for a local store than for a pub which has been in decline for many years and there are plenty of others in the area anyway. The location is good and I don't think there will be more noise with deliveries than there was when the pub was open- especially late in the evening. At least, the store shuts earlier in the evening and doesn't have loud music.For me it will be great to have a nearby place to do my shopping properly with things I really need and can not be found at the few small shops. the lidi in eltham is spot on.
but shopping there is full of problems what with the local traffic wardens on your case
the moment you park.
far to many shoppers for the town to cope with.
having a local lidi is just the thing to save the worry of having to put up with the high street
and the problems of parking.
most of the people who don't want the store.
say they want to keep the pub.
if the pub was that important they would have used it.
I have been to the pub a few times but found
it had an element of dislikeable people who used it. once I ordered a drink and it was served someone had picked it up and walked off with it this was before I even played for the drink.
there is a nisa store near by but parking is just impossible any time the store is open.
once the store is built in 2014 all the people who did not want it would find themselves in the store using it unlike the pub they all want but had no time to visit.
