We looked at hotels all along the 1 &13 from Philly to Virginia Beach. I have to say that the whole area lacks small, clean, modern boutique hotels, and the Hotel Cape Charles is clearly a jewel in the rough. I understand that The Council may feel that the hotel does not fit withing the character of the town, but I might argue that towns and cities do not need to be stuck in time. Certainly Paris and London are cities with centuries of character (to say the least), but they are also filled with modern buildings and companies, and these to not detract from the character of the city. The combination of old and new only serves to highlight the quaint character of the town. You may love chocolate chip cookies, but they go better with milk than with more chocolate chip cookies. Quite frankly, without the Hotel Cape Charles, we would not have visited your town, eaten at the coffee house, nor walked through your shops downtown (the new ice cream shop was great). Frankly, they're the only anchor in town.
