We have a draft piece of legislation given to us by Suzan Harjo that we carried which would amend the American Indian Religious Freedom Act to include the protection of sacred places. It is with great sorrow to not have the natural landscape restored to it's former glory. I am appalled at hearing that 'Round Up' is being used manage weeds, rather than the natural method of fire to maintain the integrity of the site because all the tree cover was destroyed. Where is the integrity of the NPS to monitor the water contamination or consider sustainability and permaculture in it's design plans? I want my grandchildren to know this place and preserved for it's sacredness, not a typical urban park. Please support our collective need in having connection to a traditional cultural property. Enforce the NPS to work with our Elders in coming up with a design the honors the sacred and not descecrate and perpetuate the historical trauma of people who care so deeply about the sacred waters and land.
