We have also been waiting to try and get a referral in for pain management... we were told the wait time for pain management is 9 months. I wish they would let us actually score these physicians and staff members... I can give names of several heads that need to roll at our VA!!

However in Feb. 2012 my husband almost died and spent 4 days in ICU because his oxygen level was under 50% and we were never given a diagnosis or anything. They just sent us home with some steroids. In addition to this, they are still claiming his hypoxia is resolved thereby making it not "service connected"yet each time he comes in, his oxygen level has been dangerously low with no explanation. This happened in February and he has yet to be seen by a pulmonologist. Also, primary care at the VA is rediculous. They let you run out of your RX yet can't seem to get you in to see a specialist for 2 months. Therefore my 32 year old husband that is on approx. 14 different medications has to do without unless we go see a Dr. out in town, which then gets everything confused because you're getting this medication from here and others from wherever else. I've talked to Vietnam Vets dying from cancer that are still waiting for benefits they should have begun receiving 30 plus years ago. Most likely they will die before they see any benefits at all. They served their country honorably. Give them the benefits they've earned for goodness sake.

The claims process needs to go through much sooner then making the veteran wait & suffer like they do. The stress that they go through not being able to pay their bills, or to buy food to provide for their family because they are ill or injured because of what they had gotten from serving in the military defending their country and then their country turns their back on them and NOT TAKING CARE OF THEM... is enough to kill them along with all the stress. It should not be that way. It is horrible. They go from being a Hero to being a broken down nothing in their eyes as it appears to them, also to everyone else the same way in their heads. But you can't tell the once strong soldier that, because they are disabled and sick and now feeling worthless. It would help them if they were able put money in their pocket for their needs it would make them feel like they are providing for their family and some kind of self worth. But this "hurry up in wait" needs to stop. It is hurting many veterans and their families in many, many ways. It is rediculious.

The unconcerned and out right attitudes of some of the staff at our local VA is unbelievable. I am aware that we are not the only ones that are treated this way. We should demand an accountability from the ones that are paid to see the Vets get what they derserve after all these years. Glad to know the current vets are getting the help they need currently, but the Viet Nam Vets have waited over 50yrs and are still waiting. Not to mention all the years they and their famlies have suffered with illnesses from the exposure to AO (and not knowing) and the financial burdens endured. Each case is unique and should be treated as so, not denied across the board as is the case today.

Then at another appointment, I had a new Dr. and as I was listing my Conditions, I went to list another one and was interrupted by the Dr. as he said, "Another one???!!!". Then, I would call VA to request forms to be mailed and not receive them. There have also been times where I was about to become homeless because VA was taking their sweet time with my Rating which most of them are incorrect Ratings. Raters need to be able to know how a injury can effect a Vet instead of referring to some Manual that someone who does not know anything about what a Vet is going through.
