By 2:00 A.M., Tuesday through Sunday, all establishments designated as "Dance Halls" must be closed and have all patrons out.
The streets of Downtown and Midtown, Gainesville become flooded with a great percentage of party-goers patronizing these establishments. Many of which are inebriated.
The Gainesville Police Department has to navigate through the heavily populated streets as they respond to increased reports of alcohol and drug related crimes.
Local eateries in these areas are vulnerable to vandalism.
Also, our dance hall owners and managers miss out on an opportunity of greater ticket sales and the development of non-alcoholic beverage sales. This equates to missed revenue for the City of Gainesville.
Increasing the allowable dance hall hours of operations to 3:00 a.m will offer a solution to these challenges.
We, the undersigned, call on the Public Safety Committee of the City of Gainesville to approve an amendment to the Gainesville, Florida, Code of Ordinances, PART II, CODE OF ORDINANCES; Chapter 14.5-107(b) which states:
"No person shall operate an adult dance hall during any hours other than 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. of the following day. The establishment shall close and all customers or members shall vacate the premises from 2:00 a.m. until the time that the club may legally open for operation. "
We ask that the new hours of operation be 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
