Abolish Stamp Duty For First Home Buyers in SA

As a concerned South Australian I’d like to bring something important to your attention.

Did you know that South Australians pay the highest amount of government fees in the nation when purchasing property? This includes being charged the highest amount for registration of transfer in Australia!

In fact, SA’s transfer of registration costs are 4 times as much as in any other state. This is a significant barrier to first home buyers purchasing an existing home and needs to be brought into line.

Let me put that into context for you.

Imagine this … you own a retail shop in Rundle Mall. There are 4 competitors nearby and they all sell the exact same product line as you. Your point of difference is that you are 4 times more expensive than your competitors and you wonder why no one is coming into your shop.

NSW and Victoria have already abolished stamp duty for first home buyers and we need to follow suit as it makes good business and economic sense. It will help stimulate the SA economy and reduce the number of young people moving to other states.

We are seeking an abolishment of stamp duty and Government fees for all first home buyers in South Australia and we need your help to make this happen.
