The Asian giant hornet, an insect the size of a grown man's thumb, vicious and aggressive far beyond the scope of Africanized bees*, has the potential to become a global plague.
While climatic factors previously held this species into a specific geographic region, climate change will soon expand its potential habitable ranges to even go off of the Asian continent and even most of the earth when helped by international trade.
This insect may present a threat to the stability of entire geographic region(s), especially to regions it is not native to. It is imperative to add this species to the list of known biological weapons agents. If this had been previously considered, but thought prudent to not draw attention to the species as a possible weapons agent, the recent attacks by the insect in its natural habitat in northern China have drawn attention to the species and said hypothetical prudence is now irrelevant. Furthermore the potential for genetic alterations to the venom gland**, and the addition of pesticide resistance gained through gradient exposure, makes this insect an actual serious international threat.
The low mortality when compared to other agents in the biological weapon agent class is completely irrelevant when the psychological factor is examined. This insect inflicts massive pain in a sting through a potent neurotoxin, it can sting multiple times, and as all wasps do, emits a pheromone that attracts other hornets to the area of a sting. This insect could be used to a socially crippling and devastating effect.
Suggested action:
1) Add the species or species group, to the class c, or even b, biological weapons agents.
2)There is an Asian scientist who has discovered a particular species of animal with a viable defense against this Hornet.+ a) His project should be granted military funding.b) The commercial usage of his or any similar defenses should be banned.i)To prevent the Giant Hornet from overcoming the defense mechanism through over exposure ii)and to protect the species from having its defense mechanism from being rendered useless through commercial overuse.++
*Which was a relatively small number of African honey bees genetically diluted across north American honey bees.
**The only limiting factor is that the Giant Hornet is difficult to raise in lab environments.
+I the writer and initiator of this petition have no personal or economic relations with this researcher, but choose not to divulge his name to prevent commercial exploitation and thus degrading through commercial overuse of the defense mechanism he has discovered.
++This environmental protection inroad seems quickest for the inroad to commercial production prevention.
I, the undersigned, highly recommended that the Asian Giant hornet be added to the list of known biological weapons agents, and strongly endorse any and all research into preventing its likely global spread.
