Currently, city ordinances allow the keeping of chickens and bees, with permits, in residential areas. The ordinance grants only for personal use of the animals and the products thereof and are not for business purposes.
We are requesting that rabbit, quail, and cuy, be included in these ordinances. We are requesting the right to Urban Homestead our properties by the raising of small animals, such as rabbit, quail, and cuy to better provide for our families.
Many people like to be as self-sufficient and self-reliant as they can. Such animals would allow that by providing meat and in some cases fiber for the personal uses of the family.
With permits and inspections, the city would be able to insure proper and safe living conditions for the animals, neighbors and the families raising such animals. The mentioned animals are fairly quiet and are usually not a nuisance to neighbors if raised correctly.
We, the undersigned, call the cities of Utah to grant the right to Urban Homestead in residential areas, for the purpose of better providing for our families, by the raising of rabbit, quail, and cuy, along with the currently approved chicken and bees, for personal use of the family.
