Appoint the Right Education Commissioner for Tennessee

To Governor Haslam:

I stand with Tennessee Strong, a network of education advocacy groups from across the State of Tennessee, and ask that you appoint a Commissioner of Education who exhibits transparency, inclusiveness, and open communication. It is imperative that the next Commissioner of Education work openly with teachers, school leaders, and parents to improve education across the state.

The next Commissioner MUST focus on this critical work of creating a culture of open communication around educational policy. This work should show a well-rounded effort that is not focused solely on reforms, but also considers the educational welfare of students in Tennessee. It is time that we have an Education Commissioner that can move past old debates and toward better schools for all Tennessee communities.
