Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, and Lexington should negotiate with MBTA for Improved Bus 62, 76, and 62/76 Services
- Target:
- Towns of Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, and Lexington, Massachusetts
- Region:
- United States of America
There are two areas in which Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, and Lexington are underserved by MBTA's bus 62 & 76:
1. Bus 62, 76, and 62/76 hours of operations. During the week, the last 62 bus from Alewife is 8 pm, and the last 76 bus from Alewife is 9:30 pm. On Saturdays, the last 62/76 bus from Alewife is 7 pm.
2. No bus services on Sundays.
Requested improvements:
* Providing some form of Sunday service. There is no public transportation option to Bedford and/or Lexington on Sundays. Many tourists desire to visit the historic sites in Lexington on Sundays but cannot due to lack of public transportation. There is no public transportation access to the VA Hospital or Hanscom Field Air Foce base on Sundays for families to visit patients, often the only day they could visit.
All four towns would benefit from Sunday service.
* Extending end of day service on Routes 62 and 76 during the week. A later bus is needed to allow workers to fill their shifts and still get home. It would also enable those who want to attend sporting and other events that end later in the evening to use the MBTA.
* Extending end of day service on combined Route 62/76 on Saturdays.
We the undersigned, urge the Selectmen of Bedford, and Lexington to negotiate with the MBTA to extend the hours that routes 62 and 76 serve on Monday - Saturday, and to find a way to provide public transportation options connecting Alewife to all four towns on Sundays.
