Thank you to everyone for signing my Petition. Unfortunately the number of Signatories is too few to continue.
Even my attempts to garner support from several Federal Politicians has been unsuccesssful.
Therefore I have no option other than to close My Petition on War Graves
Australia has many War Dead buried in Commonwealth War Graves in the Middle East, including Gallipoli. In recent times these Graves and Memorials have been not only desecrated but also destroyed by those Countries Nationals.
It was reported on 17 June 2017 that an iconic Memorial that was dedicatedto the Allied Servicemen who lost their lives at Gallipoli, by Kamal Attaturk, the Founding Father of Modern Turkey, was damaged. The inscription on the Memorial read in part, "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives...you are now lying in the soil of a friendly Country".
Video footage has also emerged of Muslim Men, perhaps in Libya, destroying Commonwealth War Graves and Memorials recently. These sights are very disturbing, gut wrenching and heartbreaking. For those who have loved ones interned in these areas must find these abominable acts very distressing.
There are many thousands if not Hundreds of thousands of Australian Families who have been affected by War. Our War dead deserve respect and MUST be Honoured by the Australian Government.
I am hoping for 1,000 Signatures for this which I will be presenting to the Australian Prime Minister requesting that the remains of ALL Australian Personnel interred in these Countries/Areas, be repatriated Home.
These brave Australians fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today and deserve our never ending gratitude and respect.
The words "Lest We Forget" should not just be a "throwaway" phrase at Cemeronies, but actually mean what they represent. They gave their lives for our today. To dishonour our forebears cannot and should not be tolerated.
Of course the cost will be an issue that may impact on the acceptance of this Petition. I believe that a Rolling Program over a number of years be adopted with Funds being: allocated in the Budget, redirected from other Programs, such as Foreign Aid, financial assistance from the RSL or perhaps a Private/Government Partnership.
I am aware that an ANZAC DAY Pilgrimage is viewed as a Sacred Journey by Australians. However with the Turkish Government now leaning very heavily towards ISLAM, I feel it is only a matter of time before these Brave Australians are lost forever.
