Our Antiquated laws do not protect women and children from sexual predators. Far too many sitting judges will not sentence the offender because they do not want to negatively impact the life of the perpetrator. Males are not held accountable for their unacceptable behaviour towards women and girls. This must change IMMEDIATELY if we are to protect our sisters, daughters, granddaughters, nieces, aunts and mothers from these violent offenders.
To Justin Trudeau and the Attorney General of Canada;
We the undersigned call on the government of Canada to honor their commitment to protecting women and girls, through mandatory sentencing for any and all sex related crimes against women, girls and those who identify as female.
We demand that the following recommendations be implemented immediately in Canada:
1. Automatic 10 year sentence for first offenders of sexual assault.
2. Automatic life sentence, with the possibility of parole after 25 years for repeat offenders.
3. Automatic life sentence, without the possibility of parole for human/sex trafficking and serial rapists.
4. Mandatory counseling for the remainder of their lives.
5. Automatic registration with a global sex offenders registry
We also demand that any judge who allows convicted sex offenders to go free be removed from the bench immediately and be disbarred, to ensure sentencing protocols are followed by all.
This government has stated that it believes in feminism and equality, it is long past time to prove it. This government swore to protect Indigenous women and girls and to build strong relationships through "truth and reconciliation" those efforts have been dismal. It is time Canada held the perpetrators of violence against ALL women accountable for their crimes. It is time we rewrite outdated, insufficient, inadequate laws to protect our women, girls and female identifying Canadians, and stop protecting the offenders.
