Awake Illinois Parents Bill of Rights Citizen Pledge

WE, the undersigned, support a Parents Bill of Rights in Illinois.

WHEREAS, a number of advocate groups, grassroots organizations, and private citizens have spoken out against the government overreach of the Executive Branch of Illinois represented by Governor Jay Robert Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois State Board of Education, et
al ; and

WHEREAS, the Legislative Branch of Illinois represented by the Illinois General Assembly has rejected constituent demands for balanced government in
the wake of unlawful authority usurped and applied by the Executive Branch of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of Illinois parents, guardians, and communities represented by Attorney Thomas DeVore filed a lawsuit against the state and over
145 school districts seeking injunctive relief in the wake of due process violations; and

WHEREAS, the Illinois Supreme Court denied an appeal from Gov. JB Pritzker in the legal fight over COVID-19 restrictions in schools; and

WHEREAS, the Judicial Committee on Administrative Rules did not apply their authority to suspend the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) emergency rules when the ISBE did not define factual basis for "Emergency"; and

WHEREAS, parents have increasing concerns regarding divisive school curricula, socialist/anti-American activism in the classroom, and various other
forms of indoctrination; and

WHEREAS, special interest groups, teacher unions, and political bureaucrats show clear disregard for parental judgement and authority; and

WHEREAS, 2021 marks the eighth consecutive year of population decline for Illinois, according to Census Bureau estimates;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that AWAKE ILLINOIS calls on all CANDIDATES for the IL GENERAL ASSEMBLY to pledge commitment in support of an Illinois Parents Rights Bill that shall:

Allow parents to take their children's taxpayer-funded education dollars to the education providers of their choosing whether public or private;

Prohibit State agencies from intimidating, threatening, or coercing locally elected bodies of government;

Require district school boards and public charter schools to adopt procedures that comport with certain provisions of law for notifying student's parent
of specified information;

Require such procedures to reinforce fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding upbringing & control of their children;

Prohibit school districts and public charter schools from adopting procedures or student support forms that prohibit school district personnel from notifying parent about specified information or that encourage student to withhold from parent such information;

Prohibit Illinois public school personnel from discouraging or prohibiting parental notification & involvement in critical decisions affecting student's mental, emotional, or physical well-being;

Prohibit classroom discussions in Illinois public schools that extend beyond approved sex-ed standards including but not limited to teaching minors (17
and under) how to consent to sexual activity, showing highly explicit sexual material, discussing staff sexuality/sexual experiences, and /or teaching
sexual orientation or gender identity in the classrooms;

Require Illinois public schools to obtain parental consent to all medical and healthcare services or procedures;

Require Illinois public schools to provide parents with an annual curriculum transparency report;

Prohibit Illinois public schools from teaching inaccurate and false history in classrooms;

Require Illinois public schools to notify parents of healthcare services;

Authorize parents to bring action against school district to obtain declaratory judgment;

Provide for additional award of injunctive relief, damages, & reasonable attorney fees & court costs to certain parents.
