A portion of New Zealand's population struggle to provide regular meals for themselves and their families, whilst a huge proportion of edible food is thrown away everyday by supermarkets. The wasteful nature that this type of action promotes is not sustainable and needs to be thought of in a more resourceful way.
The solution for this is quite easy and simple; ban all supermarkets from throwing away or spoiling unsold food. However it cannot be accomplished without the will of the Ministry of Primary Industries and Ministry for the Environment.
Donating these products to charities will increase food security, reduce environmental strains, and provide tools to create healthy and nutritious meals to those in need. The benefits are far reaching and will have positive impacts on the economical, social, and environmental aspects of our country.
By signing our petition you are showing your support for a drastic change in supermarkets attitudes towards food waste, implemented by the New Zealand government.
This simple but effective change will go a long way to improving the lives of many and create a more sustainable environment for the future.
