Awdal Region is bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, Hargiasa, and the Gulf of Aden. It is primarily inhabited by people from the Somali ethnic group “the Gadaboursi” The population of the region was 305,455 in October 2012. The last two decades, there was educational, social and economic development.
On 18th July 1957 till today, we have been the audience of the BBC Somali Services, but we have never been satisfied with BBC Somali services because region’s universities graduated from hundreds every year, some protests happened in the region, there have been some socio-economic developments, there was conflicts in the last local elections between Somaliland administration and Awdal citizens, all these crucial news never been heard in the BBC Somali Services.
BBC Somali Services should provide its services to all Somali communities, and treat them equally without discrimination and it wasn’t launched to take the media and broadcasting advantages to only one community or some cities while the others are denied their rights.
Therefore, we the undersigned, are asking that the BBC Somali Services and BBC World Services management review the entire current BBC Journalist system in Somalia especially Somaliland and create a new system that employs enough workers so that each media case can be properly assessed independently.
