Rotating block was eliminated from the BHS schedule for the 2008-09 school year with the belief that it would benefit the school. It was replaced with a shorter period known as "Extended Block" which takes place in the middle of the day instead of at the end. However, this shorter block has proven to be a hindrance to our studies.

Students are not permitted to leave their extended block classroom. This means they are unable to make up quizzes and tests if necessary. Many students cannot stay after school due to work, sports, etc.... Rotating block was beneficial to such students, while extended block does not help them at all.

In addition, many teachers choose to teach during this block. The block is only 40 minutes long, rendering teaching obsolete. Even if teachers do not teach, 40 minutes really isn't enough time to get homework done.

By signing this petition, you are supporting our mission to reinstate rotating block for the 2009-10 year. Rotating block is an effective use of time.

We want to be permitted to not only do our homework for an hour, but to also go to other teachers to make up quizzes and tests.

This will be most effective at the end of the day when students know all their homework for the day.
