During the 2013 Bundaberg floods, over 5000 North Bundaberg residents were evacuated from their homes.
Despite millions of dollars being spent on feasibility studies and business cases – the North Bundaberg residents most at risk of a future flood are as exposed today as they were in 2013.
The proposed $82 million East Bundaberg Levee offers limited protection for areas such as East Bundaberg and the Bundaberg CBD but offers NO protection for residents of North Bundaberg.
The Bundaberg community consider that flood protection should be focused on those most at risk of future flood events.
The citizens of the Bundaberg region call on the Queensland State Government and the Bundaberg Regional Council to review their East Bundaberg Flood Levee proposal and implement better flood protection measures that will protect those most at risk of future flood events in the Burnett River, including the residents of North Bundaberg, Avoca and other flood risk areas.
