Canada is one of the few 1st world countries in the world who do not have government support in a National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
Suicide is a major public health concern and our rates are continuing to rise. According to most recent Canadian statistics, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in those aged 15-45 and the 9th leading cause of death in all ages in Canada.
It is time to start taking serious action towards creating a plan, following through and reducing our rates of suicide.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Canadian government to create governing legislation for the implementation of a Canadian National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
