Sesame Street has been going on for more than 50 years now. They’re not stuck in the past like other kids shows. I mean, I wish other kids shows would also go on for more than fifty years, have Jack Black, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, and other celebrities as big as guest stars, and get their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The reason why Sesame Street succeeds whereas other children's shows fail, I don’t know. Maybe because little kids like it, maybe because it’s educational, maybe because Jim Henson and his Muppets made it work so well. Whatever the reason, it’s been going on for too long.
The show has never gone bad, but has become "babyish" in recent years - collaborating with other kids' brands on YouTube, going from one hour to a half hour, focusing on a different theme each episode, and giving Elmo and Abby too much screentime.
I’m not saying I don’t like Sesame Street (I have and will always love it), but seriously, people, it’s time to let the show die in peace now. To keep fans and little kids alike happy, keep airing the show in reruns and let the series finale be the show's upcoming movie. Let the movie be a family film like Follow That Bird and make it nostalgic with references to the show’s classic years like The Muppets (2011). If not, do something similar. The show deserves it. I presumably hope the show will end after its 53rd season, as they recently started filming it.
