Under Massachusetts Law, MA, GLC 119, Section 39D, grandparents can request court ordered visitations with their unmarried minor grandchildren IF the parents do NOT live together AND are either divorced, married but living apart, or under a Temporary Order of judgment of separate support OR one or both parents have died OR the child was born out of wedlock and the paternity of the father has been adjudicated or acknowledged.

NOTE: If the child is adopted by a stranger, other than a stepparent, the grandparents CANNOT ask for, nor will they be given, court-ordered visitation.

We the undersigned request to have this law changed so that grandparents can request court ordered visitations with their unmarried minor grandchildren regardless of whether or not the child's parents are married and/or living together, or if both parents are still living, or if the child was born "in" wedlock.

The relationship of the child's parents should NOT impact the ability for grandparents to have visitation with their grandchildren.

We the undersigned also request court-ordered visitation rights be granted if the child is adopted by a stranger, other than a step-parent.
