The benefits of Sister City relationships and other Global relationships may be had, but as to how much these relationships benefit all in the communities in the City of Casey? The problem is that it could be viewed that the Sister City relationships are maintained for the benefit of few and are used as an excuse for long distance travel by councillors. This adds to the budget and the money could be better spent elsewhere within the municipality.
Are we the ratepayers getting value for money or are we sponsoring the privileges of a few where spending this money locally could benefit more residents and ratepayers in the long run?
We, that sign this petition, ask the City of Casey to reconsider how much money is spent on maintaining Sister City or other global relationships, and request that the City of Casey fund only local organisational aspects of these programs. We request that these global relationships be funded entirely by participants and donations from the community and businesses.
Furthermore, we ask councillors wishing to participate in Sister City or other global relationships, do so at their own expense. We also ask the City of Casey to help in fundraising for these relationships so that they may continue for those that wish to participate. We sign this petition to show the numbers of people within this municipality that strongly believe in the sentiment of this petition and ask that council recognise and act on the will of the people in this municipality.
