Over 40,000 babies are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) every year; 4,000 of them will not live to see their first birthday. I was born with a defect called congenital complete heart block (CCHB) and this is a condition in which the atria do not contract with the ventricles at the same time.
I received my first pacemaker when I was 15 hours old!! Twice as many children die from CHDs every year than ALL forms of pediatric cancers combined, yet funding for pediatric cancer research is 5 times higher then for CHD research! Remember, 1 out of every 100 babies will be born with a CHD... What if that 1 was yours?
Families of congenital heart defect angels, warriors, and survivors themselves ask the citizens of the United States of America to pull together and help spread awareness for the diseases claiming these innocent lives.
