- Target:
- The Principal, St. Joseph's High School Matigara
- Region:
- India
We, the ex-josephites would like to make a petition to convert classrooms of our school St. Joseph’s High School Matigara (SJS), into isolation wards and/or ICUs as a response to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Our school has the unique advantage of being close to the North Bengal Medical College where patients suffering from coronavirus are currently being treated.
The coronavirus has unleashed an unprecedented health crisis across the world and it has begun to make its mark in Siliguri and its neighboring areas. It is important for us to acknowledge the rapid pace of this spread and respond, plan and prepare in a timely fashion.
Our petition to convert classrooms of our school into isolation wards/ makeshift ICUs, is in line with the very valued theoretical school teachings of empathy, compassion and charity and offers the school an opportunity to lead by example in converting these cherished virtues into practice.
We the undersigned are ex-Josephites who would like to make a petition to convert classrooms of our school St. Joseph’s High School Matigara (SJS), into isolation wards and/or ICUs as a response to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Our school has the unique advantage of being close to the North Bengal Medical College where patients suffering from coronavirus are currently being treated.
We believe that converting our classrooms and basement into a centre of treatment/healing in response to the possibility of mass suffering unleashed by the COVID-19 pandemic, is in line with the principles and values instilled in us through our school education. Our school teachings laid great emphasis on the values of empathy, compassion and charity especially towards those who are suffering from ailments. Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic offers a unique opportunity to convert our valued theoretical teachings into practice.
While North Bengal currently has a small number of COVID-19 positive cases, we know from reliable sources of information that the coronavirus is highly contagious and can spread very rapidly in a short span of time. It is therefore important for us to acknowledge a pattern in the nature of the spread and in response, plan and prepare in advance.
We sincerely hope that a situation does not arise where the isolation wards will be used but in the instance that it does, we are eager to see SJS lead by example, as it always has especially in moments of great need.
The petition is forwarded by the President St. Joseph’s Alumna Association and is addressed to the Principal of St. Joseph’s High School, Matigara. In addition, the petition is marked to the following recipients:
1. The Chief Minister of West Bengal
2. Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal
3. Rector, North Bengal Medical College
4. The Archbishop of West Bengal
5. Head of the Daughters of the cross
