J Sainsbury Plc (Sainsburys) owns a supermarket store located within the boundary of Knaphill village; the naming of the store was chosen as 'Sainsburys Brookwood' and has remained as such to date.
It is clearly not a Brookwood store which is reflected in the address - Redding Way, Knaphill, WOKING GU21 2QT and the naming is a continual aggravation and slight to the residents of Knaphill. Despite contacting the Customer Services department (who said it was named after the Brookwood train station) and being brought to the store managers (Peter Smith) attention (by Councillor Olly Wells), who said it was named after the Brookwood Hospital site on which the store is built, there is no apparent intention on the part of Sainsburys to correctly reflect the name of the store as Knaphill.
The store is actually built on land that was known as Knaphill Common prior to being Brookwood Hospital which has shown the level of research performed by Sainsburys prior to naming. Sainsburys has a Corporate Responsibility policy stating they will make a positive difference to their communities and be a good neighbour.
We, the undersigned, request J Sainsbury Plc to have the name of the store located at Redding Way, Knaphill, WOKING GU21 2QT corrected to Sainsburys Knaphill and in doing so prove their commitment to their own policies and have a truer reflection of the store's involvement in the community of Knaphill in which it is located.
