Without cause and without legitimate grounds, the General Manager Les McMahon has taken reprisal against our Association and refused to answer questions raised by our Association over the last twelve months.
Mayor Benn Banasik (son of Councillor Michael Banasik and brother-in-law of Councillor Simon Landow) successfully moved a motion at the March 2014 Council meeting to block email communication with our Association and restrict postal correspondence to one question per month with a time limit not to exceed one hour per month.
The General Manager and Mayor have extended the restrictions to block questions being raised at the April Community Forum in direct contravention with Guidelines, the Communications Policy and Council’s Charter in an attempt to avoid the democratic processes of transparency and accountability.
We, the undersigned Wollondilly residents and ratepayers, strenuously object to Council placing a blanket embargo on Wollondilly Residents & Ratepayers Incorporated to block our Association from emailing or writing letters to the General Manager and Councillors requesting answers to questions on scrutiny, transparency and accountability.
We demand that the embargo be lifted and that democracy be restored in the public interest.
