A petition opposed to the project known as
‘The Ellington’.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the Asheville City Council deny approval of the project known as
‘The Ellington’ for the following reasons:
(1) It is incompatible with the surrounding neighborhood in terms of scale, bulk, density, and character;
(2) It is located on one of the oldest streets in Asheville and will not be in harmony with the current buildings and character of the existing community, both retail and residential;
(3) The project will cause undue traffic congestion and potential traffic hazards on an already overcrowded and busy main artery in downtown, making the street less pedestrian-friendly;
(4) The proposed project has the potential to cause undue negative economic impact to small independent businesses in the area during the long construction phase;
(5) The proposed use of the space for boutique hotel rooms and luxury condominiums are not a pressing need for our community at this time. A more modestly priced housing development could be considered for that location.
