In light of recent events, it is now more crucial than ever to come together and make a change regarding gun control and gun safety. As firearms and technology have evolved, so too should the laws that govern them. There have been 17 instances of school shootings in 2018 alone in the United States. The United States has had more incidents of mass shootings from 1966-2012 (90), than the next five countries combined (54). The safety of our citizens must come first. We are not asking for the eradication of the second amendment. However, we are asking that firearms receive the limits and control that is so evidently necessary for the survival and safety of Americans nationwide.
We, the undersigned, call on the United States Congress to make stricter the laws that pertain to firearm sales and safety measures by:
1. Placing a ban on automatic weapons or weapons of assault and modifiers, such as bump stocks, from civilian society
2. Raising the legal purchasing age to 21
3. Reinstate the waiting period and increase it from 3 to 5 days
4. Increase background checks and fitness tests to include a psychological evaluation and references
5. Every 3 years, a gun owner must undergo a retest
5. Citizens must apply to the local city government before purchasing a gun, and the application must be approved
6. Close the gun show loophole, require a universal proof of sale
