On 1 May 2015 the area surrounding the new railway project in Murrumba Downs/Kallangur in the Moreton Bay Regional Council catchment was inundated with water. There were at least 10 homes that we know of that were affected at varying levels with up to 1m of water flowing through these homes. The Moreton Bay Rail Link appears to be causing this flooding in Kallangur, particularly to homes in Allison Drive, Marler Court and Brays Road, along with Anzac Avenue and the Bruce Highway, around Freshwater Creek due to the earthen embankments built along the railway corridor.
These areas were NOT flood zones until the railway project began.. The government organized an independent inquiry last year as homes in Deception Bay, Mango Hill, Rothwell were also affected, however excluded Kallangur from the enquiry, even though they were informed of the flood issue prior to investigation.
We need as many signatures as we can to encourage the politicians/ministers and other relevant parties to take notice and implement action.. Photos are available for those seeking further details.
After 2015 floods in May, Kallangur was excluded from the independent inquiry into the Moreton Bay Rail Link connection with the flood, even though the government were fully aware of the issues.
By signing this petition, these people are asking the government to take action and investigate the flooding issues and correcting them in the Kallangur and Freshwater Creek Catchment area.
