Tom "Big Red" Emery has been a UConn men's basketball season ticket holder for four decades. He is a legendary fan who leads the U-C-O-N-N cheer, and a spark of electricity in an otherwise tepid fan base. I was bummed to read his quote in a 12/23/17 Hartford Courant profile: "I seldom spend money going out on a Friday night. I’m a blue collar worker. If you knew how much it meant to get a ticket even now. It’s difficult. It’s not really in the budget. I save." I think the school owes him a great debt for his years of tireless fandom, and I was disappointed to see how lackluster 12/30/17's "Big Red Appreciation Day" halftime ceremony was. The least UConn could do is give this man free season tickets for doing so much for the team.
We, the undersigned legions of UConn fans, call on the athletic department to give Tom "Big Red" Emery complimentary season tickets for the rest of his life.
