Wollondilly Shire Council resolved at the February meeting to vary Community Forum Policy Guidelines without the democratic process of community consultation.
The Guidelines were varied to give the General Manager and Mayor discretion to reject questions and statements raised by ratepayers in the public interest. This is a draconian attempt to block accountability and stagnate freedom of speech and would not happen in any other local government area in Australia except Wollondilly.
We the undersigned residents and ratepayers of Wollondilly reject Council’s resolution 9/2014 varying Community Forum Guidelines without community consultation.
We demand that the authority given to the General Manager and Mayor by councillors be rescinded and that the draft policy be placed on exhibition for public comment and review.
