Get Rid of Age Limit of Prom

All around the United States, there are age limits. Age limits on roller coaster rides, tobacco, alcohol, age of consent, body piercings, tattoo's, marriage, moving out without parents consent and voting age. ALL of these are necessary in our society; however, age limit on prom is not, especially when the age limit is only twenty years of age or younger. Barren County High School has this age limit on their prom. Why? Is it truly necessary?

The only reasonable explantion for this age limit is because if your twenty-one you could bring alcohol to prom. However, this is ridiculous. A number of students (under twenty-one and that still attend BCHS) showed up at Prom last year drunk, or on the verge of it. The age limit is not going to stop alcohol from entering the Prom. My boyfriend is twenty-one and has never bought alcohol in his life. He should not be discriminated against because he is of the age of legally being able to buy alcohol.

There are many other students who want to attend their Senior Prom but can't unless they went with someone other than their 21+ boyfriend/girlfriend. In saying this I have attempted many times, with fellow peers, to try and change the age limit or atleast to try to convince BCHS to let our boyfriend or girlfriends go with a proper background check, signature, etc. However, they are not budging.
