- Target:
- To participate in the next ESC with a song in Greek language
- Region:
- GLOBAL
In 1999 the freedom of language was introduced in the "Eurovision Song Contest".
In 2001 Greece and ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) participated with "Die For You" with lyrics in Greek and English ending in 3rd place, the best place for the country up to then.
That success forced most of the Greek songwriters to submit and ERT to participate with songs only in English.
In 2004 Sakis Rouvas ended in 3rd too with "Shake it" totally in English.
In 2005 Greece won Eurovision with Helena Paparizou singing "My Number One" in English too.
In 2006 and 2007 Greece had two Top-10 places (9th and 7th) with songs in English.
However, during those years, Eurovision saw Serbia winning in 2007 and coming 2nd in 2004 with powerful ballads in Serbian, Ukraine as a Winner in 2004 with Ruslana and "Wild Dances" in Ukrainian and English, Russia coming 3rd in 2003 in Russian, Bosnia & Herzegovina 3rd singing in Bosnian and many other songs in good placings in native languages proving that a song can end high due to the whole "package" (music, lyrics and presentation) and not because of the use of English language.
Moreover, it's getting monotonous for Greece to participate in Eurovision with the SAME FORMULA: A POP MELODY IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
It's time for Greece to present A DESCENT GREEK MELODY IN GREEK LANGUAGE, especially after Serbia's victory in Serbian last year!
We, the Fans of "Eurovision Song Contest", strongly believe that, after so many greek-pop songs in English languages, ERT and Greece should try to participate with A SONG WITH GREEK LYRICS.
We are sure that especially after last year's Serbian victory in Serbian, the advantage of the english language does not exist anymore.
Furthermore, with the introduction of the new system (two semis, only the winner qualifies for the final) we have nothing to loose by using the Greek language.
Finally, we would like to see Greece competing with something different.
