New York State has very few schools that offer Deaf Studies programs, the closest B.A. and Masters program are located in New York City, which is 2-2.5 hours away from New Paltz.

If S.U.N.Y. New Paltz began a Deaf Studies major program, students would have the opportunity to embark on a career in which they can work with the Deaf Community and prepare students for jobs in that field at a school that they are passionate about.

We, the undersigned, call on SUNY New Paltz to create a Bachelors program in Deaf Studies that will prepare students to work in the Deaf Community and/or prepare them for a Masters interpreting program.
