Let's not deny it, Fable has long since past its glory days, In trying to cater to everybody they've catered to nobody, Fable 3 was not a good game, Fable 2 was not a great game but it was a damn sight better than Fable 3, I can still play Fable TLC today and enjoy it thoroughly.
Its successors were not good games, the upcoming "fable the journey" will not be a good game, We need to save what was once (one time) an awe-inspiring series.
Lets not deny it, Fable has long since past its glory days, In trying to cater to everybody they've catered to nobody, Fable 3 was not a good game, Fable 2 was not a great game but it was a damn sight better than Fable 3, I can still play Fable TLC today and its still one of my favorite games, this is not just nostalgia, I discovered Fable TLC shortly before the release of Fable 2, It was a true gem, where anything else was lacking the story brought it through, Though it did do everything better than its sequals, The story was truly epic, I did not just play out like a bad fairy tale like in Fable 3 and somewhat in Fable 2, The bad things had real impact on the game and on the player, you would actually feel like a bad guy for taking the mask for yourself, The humor in the recent games isn't a bad thing but its completely out of balance, they had it just right in Fable 1/TLC, Now it just serves to give you the occasional chuckle and to remove all the serious emotional weight from the game.
They have abandoned they're previous loyal audience, in the quest for more money, They seem think that the hardcore RPG audience who adore depth in their games no longer exists, That audience is still alive and strong as proven evident by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, It wasn't by luck that Skyrim became the second most sold game of 2011 In one month (they didn't release until November) It was because they gave the people what they wanted, they set out to make a huge deep open fantasy RPG and that's exactly what they did, and the game flourished, selling over 10 million copies within a month and became steams fastest selling title of all time.
Its not to late for lion-head to return to their roots, They don't have to make something as huge and expensive as Skyrim, In comparison Fable 1 would have been relatively cheap to make, Yet I consider it on par with Skyrim purely from the story, world, characters and overall feel which the elder scrolls can never replicate.
Recently Double Fine gained $2 Million from the public in order to fund an old school adventure game, They never expected that much of a following, This is just a suggestion but Lionhead should do the same in order to fund a classic old school true RPG Fable game, they should go back to the roots of the Fable world and set it either before or shortly after the events of Fable TLC.
With or without public funding this Fable game should,
-Go back to its roots
-Less comedy more drama to amplify a deeper, sometimes darker story that's true to the original Fable lore.
-More complex characters
-Basic repetitive 4 Button combat scrapped, A new Deeper, Completely Revamped Combat system to take its place.
-A return to the Fable 1/2 experience system or even better, a new deeper experience system.
-Graphics should no longer be gritty, they should be more vibrant and fantasy-esque.
-More gameplay elements, (Think the quest in which you gain the fire-heart from the prophets)
-Remove the dog in order to regain the lone adventurer feeling as in the original fable. add an optional quest in which you can gain a dog.
-Balance out the combat, Overall the game should be harder than all 3 Fable games, Prehaps slightly harder than Fable 1 by default, add a difficulty slider in the game settings. Using Magic in Fable 3 feels on the verge of cheating.
If anyone else has any suggestions, comment
