I was at Mount Pleasant hiking through "Devils Kitchen" when I fell and accidently broke my femur, ankle, and both of my hands. While in rehab I got served with papers saying I was being charged with a misdemeanor of the fourth degree for violating trail regulations. I assumed that I was at my own risk since I saw no signs.
I believe that if people want to enjoy walking through the woods, hiking through "Devils Kitchen", or climbing up the bear claws they should do so at their own risk with out fear of prosecution.
Signs should be erected stating that people who go "off trail" are doing so at their own risk, not only to protect their freedoms to enjoy Mount Pleasant in its entirety, but also protect the city from the responsibility of possible injury while sustained on Mt. Pleasant.
The undersigned persons, who include residents, recreational users, and other interested parties of Mount Pleasant in the State of Ohio, County of Fairfield, and City of Lancaster hereby demand there be signs erected stating "Go off trail at your own risk" in multiple locations including entrances, top, sides of trails, and popular off trail locations.
We believe that if this is done it will protect future hikers, visitors, and residents' rights to enjoy Mount Pleasant in its entirety, while protecting the city from the responsibility of unfortunate injury.
