Your Excellency,

We want to take the opportunity to call your attention to the case of Syrian activists Mazen Darwish, Hussein Ghrer and Hani al-Zitani.

Mazen Darwish is director of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of expression.

Hussein Ghrer is blogger and graduate at the Faculty of Information Engineering.

Hani Zitani is a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Sociology and university teacher.

The process of Mazen Darwish, Hussein Gharir and Hani Zaitani is resumed on August 21st.

Arrested on 6 February 2012 because of their peaceful commitment to freedom of expression, they are facing up on 15 years of imprisonment with forced labour on a charge of “publicising terrorist actions” under article 8 of an anti-terrorism law that President Assad signed in 2012.

Another hearing of their trial held on 18 November 2013 at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Damascus on alleged terrorism charges brought against them by the Syrian Government’s Air Force Intelligence. Reports confirmed that once again the trial was postponed to 27 January 2014, at the request of the prosecution which has failed to prove the charges against them.

We call for a strong diplomatic pressure. Their detention is unlawful and their lives are in danger.

Thanking you in advance for your time on this important and urgent matter.
