Many students throughout Jamaican schools, whether primary, secondary or tertiary institutions are subjected to purchasing numerous expensive texts to aid in the teaching and learning process. After these texts are purchased they are discarded, to never be used again which results in a waste of money. School fees and tuitions are already a major expense on students, parents or guardians for them to be purchasing books yearly (for primary and secondary institutions) or every other year (for tertiary institutions) which will not be used again.
This petition is to make a proposal for a Book Bartering System within each academic institution. “How will this system work?” One may ask. Well this barter system will encourage students who have purchased expensive texts to obtain the opportunity to resell said texts to lower level students at a discounted cost. This will give each student the opportunity to be able to purchase texts that are mandatory for proper schooling to take place.
