The sound barrier erected along the northbound side of Interstate 75 in West Chester, Ohio in 2008 has had a negative impact in the Hycrest Acres subdivision neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods adjacent to the interstate.
An outside firm was hired by ODOT to design the height and location of the barrier. Representatives from this firm and ODOT later acknowledged that the barrier height was not sufficient and that a higher barrier would make a positive impact. Along with this ODOT admitted that the contractor hired to clear terrain for the barrier removed an excessive amount of woodland which resulted in our natural barrier being devastated.
These factors have resulted in an increase in noise levels throughout our neighborhood. For this project ODOT's target decibel level (Below 70dB) is too high and spike levels of noise surpass this level. 70 dB is classified by all sound engineers as "ANNOYING".
We are requesting that the northbound I-75 sound barrier between Cincinnati-Dayton Road and Tylerville Road be increased to maximum height permitted and that the height level follow the highway instead of the terrain.
We also request that fast-growing trees be planted on the interstate side of the barrier in all areas where woodland was unnecessarily removed.
