The Council are currently consulting on proposed Dog Control Orders on the Isle of Wight. These Orders replace and extend the current local bylaws in relation to dog fouling, dogs on leads and dog exclusion areas.
One of the proposals is that dogs will be banned from all areas within 10 meters (approx 33 feet) from any children's play area. Not only will this significantly effect the quality of life for families with young children who also own dogs, but it may in practice result in dogs being banned from some whole parks – for instance, Appley Park and Church Litten Park both have play areas where a 10 meter exclusion zone would leave little if any park for dog walkers to use.
This petition is designed to demonstrate to the Council the strength of public feeling in relation to this particular element of the proposed Control Orders.
We, the undersigned, call on the Isle of Wight Council to reject the proposal for a 10 meter exclusion zone to be implemented around all children's play areas in parks, gardens and public spaces on the Isle of Wight as part of the Dog Control Order Regulations.
