The Canadian Government is closing the Kitsilano Coast Guard in the name of budget cuts. But this is one of, if not the busiest Coast Guard in Canada.
Plus if Kinder-Morgan gets its way with doubling the oil pipeline from Alberta to Burnaby there will be an increased chance of an oil spill, and the Coast Guard is a first responder for such an emergency.
We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to keep the Kitsilano Coast Guard operational, as it is a busy Coast Guard and responds to over 300 calls a year.
In addition to that it is a first responder for an environmental disaster, such as an oil spill, and if Kinder-Morgan gets its way with twinning the oil pipeline from Alberta to Burnaby there will be a greater risk of an oil spill.
