On Feb 15, the Vancouver Parks Board drafted out a new budget proposal. To cut funds, it wants to remove lifeguards permanently from Jericho Beach, Spanish Banks West, Spanish Banks Extension, Second Beach, Sunset Beach, and Trout Lake.
This is a SAFETY concern. We believe people WILL drown and are being put at risk in these 6 now-unsupervised public beaches.
Any concerns should be addressed to the Parks Board at pbcomment@vancouver.ca.
Please let them know that putting swimmers at risk at 6 popular beaches is not ok!
The Parks Board hearing session for public feedback is on Monday February 27, at 2099 Beach Ave at 7:00pm.
I the undersigned care about public safety and drowning prevention on public beaches, and I do not want to see lifeguards removed from any of the beaches in Vancouver including, but not exclusively, Jericho Beach, Spanish Banks West, Spanish Banks Extension, Sunset Beach, Trout Lake, and Second Beach.
