Anglesey County council is currently in the statutory consultation process to amalgamate Ysgol Llaingoch, Ysgol y Parc and Ysgol Parchedig Thomas Ellis and build a new school on the Cybi site, opposite Holyhead High School. The new school would be for 540 pupils, plus 70 nursery places. The new school would be a Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled school.
The original aim of the Council was to eliminate surplus places within primary schools in Holyhead, however Ysgol Llaingoch has just 3% surplus places, which is well below the 10% recommended by the Welsh Government, and it is expected that there will be no surplus places by September 2014.
We do not wish to see our children attend such a large school, and furthermore we question the size and suitability of the Cybi site to accommodate such a school.
We believe that Ysgol Llaingoch should remain open and continue to serve its tight knit community in the village of Llaingoch.
We the undersigned, call on Anglesey County Council to keep Ysgol Llaingoch open and invest in the school building, so that it may continue to serve the village of Llaingoch for years to come.
