Klein ISD Intermediate School Rezoning

Klein ISD has been reviewing attendance zones for the intermediate schools prompted by the opening of Ulrich Intermediate. Three of the four proposals that are being considered have the Strack Corridor neighborhood (Huntwick , Woods of Wimbledon I and II, Brandonwood, Cypress Gardens and Edinburgh Estates) re-zoned to Kleb Intermediate from Wunderlich.

The option currently listed as preferred on the Klein ISD Website (as of 12/8/09) does not include any plans for rezoning this neighborhood.

Key Concerns:
- The small number of families in these neighborhoods desire for their kids to remain within the community for intermediate school.
o o Relationships formed through swim teams, girl scouts, church groups. etc. are broken off when such a small group is moved into another feeder pattern so far away.
o o Kleb is closer in proximity for the families in the Stack Road Corridor

- Wunderlich is currently the largest intermediate school in KISD with 1444 students
o o District studies show the most favorable size to be no larger than 1250 students.

- Wunderlich is expected to peak at 105% capacity by year 2011 with 1511 students without this amendment.
o o Rezoning the 79 affected students from Wunderlich to Kleb would allow Kleb's capacity to remain within acceptable district standards.

- Gleannloch Farms’ “One Gleannloch, One School” is a precedent demonstrating the importance of allowing children in the same neighborhood to have continuity within their schools
